Most large U.S. newspapers charge more than the cost of an entire newspaper for each article a reader would like to read out of their archives. Even then this paid copy cannot LEGALLY be emailed to a mail list or posted on a website. They are posted only for one user to read at the proprietary site. While free complete articles are usually available for the first few days, our present volunteer effort does not allow a daily searching for and posting of articles of interest. At Defendhealthcare.org WE DO NOT send readers to any pay sites.
Overall, free sites for news and news searching are scarce and poorly organized around specific topics or interest areas (except for business news it seems). They usually do not offer advanced searching methods (dates and topic restrictions). Furthermore, after relevant news pages are located these are irregularly changed or the locations altered so that they often cannot be referenced and retrieved even over the period of a few weeeks. SO much for the much touted "information highway"! This is also why our links and buttons have to be checked frequently and still are sometimes found not to be connected to live pages after a couple of weeks.
A site such as ours respects all copyrights. We do not provide access to any news stories which have been clipped from pages whether hard or digital copies. It is perfectly legal to provide links to freely available pages of public sites.
If you have any suggestions about these news issues, we would appreciate comments and suggestions.
